In the process. So much blue!

At the end of September I had the opportunity to paint my first real mural. It was a bit out of my comfort zone but that’s where the magic happens, right? Totally. I had already designed a mural for the headquarters of Beauty BioScience, but in that situation I had painted the designs on a small scale in my studio and then they were blown up and put up on the walls. This mural for Caitlin Wilson Design was done traditionally, requiring me to paint directly onto the wall on-sight. It really challenged and stretched me as an artist, having to learn completely new skills and techniques and it involved many hours and long days, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The biggest challenge was translating the look of the original watercolor design that Caitlin fell in love with and mimicking that same effect with acrylic paint. The rough texture of the wall also made the process much slower as it required several passes of brushed on paint in order to get a clean line. Little by little, it came together! The design includes many prominent and historical sites in Dallas, and if you look closely you can see that I included her store front and center.
Mine was not the only mural painted that week; two other local artists contributed their work as well and the collective effect of all our murals together is quite stunning. On Saturday, September 29th, the store hosted its first warehouse sale and unveiled all of the murals as part of the event. It was such a treat to see people react to the mural and take pictures in front of it. I feel really grateful for the opportunity Brigham and Caitlin Wilson gave me to do this project and I think I may be addicted to painting murals now!
